Lanier Shooting Sports Lifestyles – July 2014

We love seeing pictures like the first ones below because they exemplify how shooting shotguns parlays into your everyday life. When you are passionate about something it shows, right? Here at Lanier Shooting Sports we are all about being lighthearted, fun, (albeit safe) about your shooting passions. In fact, we like it so much we would like you to send us similar photos of how shotguns are a part of your life and if we use your photos, we will send you a Lanier Shooting Sports hat with our logo! Submit your stories and photos to elanier@laniershootingsports.com.

Emily-s-Bridal-Session-Emil

No, this was not a shotgun wedding, but Emily Flowers Falls has always loved shooting shotguns and wanted to portray this, and a few other hobbies, in her bridal portraits. She started shooting in about 7th grade and has never looked back. In fact, she is looking forward, hoping to get her new husband Tyler out of golf and into guns! You go girl!

Meet Jane Finkenstaedt, a recent high school graduate shown here holding a caricature of herself.  Her passion is obvious to others, wouldn’t you say? Yep, Jane has been shooting since she was 12, both competitively and recreationally, loves dove hunting and has travelled as far as Argentina to do so! A girl after my own heart!  She is off to Penn State this fall and is looking forward to participating with the PSU Trap and Skeet team. We wish her all the best and I am pretty sure her dad Ned is going to be missing his shooting buddy!

What a fantastic group of shotgun enthusiasts, both new and veteran, who attended the Ladies Shotgun Salon, 2014 hosted by Ann Marie Foster (far left) and Calibered Events at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. These ladies could be heard all over the valley.  I was the lead shotgun coach, and together with the instructors at the Shooting Academy we had a wonderful time guiding these ladies forward with their shotgun proficiency. We had such a good time, I have already agreed to go next year!  For more information on next year’s event or others hosted by Calibered Events, please visit their website at www.caliberedevents.com .

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and if the smiles on these ladies don’t speak volumes then look again, ‘cuz there is no doubt about it they are having a ball! Anne Marie Foster (left) with Kate Desmond at the Calibered Events’ Ladies Shotgun Salon, 2014.

Naturally, good fun leads to more fun! The fallout of the fun at Nemacolin is summed up here where several attendees joined together to start the Maryland Chapter of the G.R.I.T.S. Their next gathering will be at Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Club in Glenn Dale, Maryland on July 12th. For more info on this chapter email Toni French Brown at toni883@alybeep.com.

NRA-mom-button

You’ll see in the group photo of the Maryland G.R.I.T.S. many of the women are wearing NRA Mom buttons.  As NRA Moms, we want our kids, and all Americans, to respect firearms and to make responsible choices about them, not just fear them. Let’s teach our children firearm safety and awareness from when they are little to when they are ready to take their first shots and beyond. For more information visit the NRA web site at www.NRA.org.

Remember, summertime is a great time to brush up on your shooting skills. Get out and shoot with your friends or get a lesson with a certified instructor. Here are a few of my students during a recent certification class led by John Higgins of the Coordinated Shooting Method (CSM) Instructor Certification Program. From the left are Ann Francis, yours truly, Paula Smith, Ashlan Prince and Elaine Judah. If you have ever been interested in becoming a shotgun instructor, I encourage you to look into this program by emailing John Higgins at jchiggins@reagan.com. You can see Shotgun Life’s story about CSM at http://tinyurl.com/nxvw4z6 .

Great GEAR!!!

Let’s talk gorgeous! These shell bags and belts are some of, no, actually the finest, I have ever come across. Custom designed to order and hand tooled using the age old process like the great old saddle makers, they are destined to become family heirlooms as they will surely be passed from generation to generation. I had the good fortune of meeting Steve Minas, owner of Upland Ranger, at the Southern Side by Side several years ago by actually chasing him down on the course after seeing him sporting the best looking shell pouch I had ever seen. Steve is one of the most affable and accommodating folks you will ever meet. Visit him online at www.uplandranger.com.

Cartride-Belt

This bag is one of my favorites in the field. It’s a cartridge belt with two Filson conversion bags to hold my gear and birds.
